Most of that is due to your excellent swimmers. How well's it gonna hold up now that the swimming is done? The Aussies have 15 medals in swimming, and 15 medals in other events, as of the end of yesterday's events.Taking out those 15 swimming medals, the remaining 15 would still rank 12th in the world in total medals. On a per capita basis, the US has about 0.18 medals per million residents. The Aussies have 1.58 medals per million residents. Even taking out their swimming medals, the Aussies have about 0.79 medals per million residents.By the way, the US has 28 swimming medals and 21 non-swimming medals--just 6 more than the Aussies. We'd suffer quite a bit in the total standings without swimming, too, if we're going to cherry-pick which events to consider. The US would drop to less than 0.08 medals per million residents without swimming.Granted, the US will add more than Australia will in track, but I think the Aussies have more than adequate reason to be proud of their efforts.--WP
