MSFT may be stuck in the mud, but with their real money makers (OS and office software) they are still the standard. Not equal to Apple in quality but making it up in quantity. No doubt they will still be selling a lot of stuff a decade from now, and at a handsome profit since most of the development expenses have already been paid for.
Microsoft still commands 85% of operating systems, and is at the core of every big enterprise, there is nothing to replace it for most. The market will never again reward MSFT with a high P/E so any gains you make in the stock will have to come from increased earnings and dividends. One can seldom make a lot of money on a stock unless you know something others don't, and it's hard for me to find any edge in MSFT pricing.

I was surprised at how well Explorer has held market share

I haven't used it in years, relying on Firefox and sometimes Safari.

Longer term I think Microsoft has a problem with their inability (or unwillingness) to make the Mac versions of their software as reliable as the Windows versions. Better versions would cut off competition before it had a chance to mature. Apple will continue to take market share, but it's a big market...

I looked at getting Windows for one of my Macs but it was too expensive, costing twice what Snow Leopard cost. No doubt they charge computer makers a lot less.
