Hello out there---Anyone still here? It's been awfully
quiet on this Lowes board lately! I'd sure like to see
some words of wisdom from some of you guys-especially
since I'm a new Lowes stockholder as well as a new(paying)
member of this Discussion Board.
I was reading some of the animated discussions going on
back in Jan '02 regarding "Employees vs Performance" on
this board and decided someone might be interested in my
recent Lowes experience.
Just before Christmas, we bought a coffeemaker at a new
Lowes store in Illinois. The unit started to leak water
within a week or so and I took it back to Lowes and
explained to the customer service lady that I had a problem.
I didn't expect a resolution since I had already sent in
the receipt with the rebate coupon. She very politely said
"Let me see if we can help you" and she phoned the floor
sales guy. He came up, heard my story and quickly resolved
my problem. When I expressed my appreciation, he shook my
hand, smiled and explained that, in their training, Lowes
emphasizes that making the customer happy is their top
priority, right after safety. I was impressed! They both
exemplified the attitude that all employees should project
to customers-a fine company spirit, a cheerful "can do"
attitude, and a determination to keep me as a satisfied
customer.
This little exchange prompted me to check out the Lowes
Website which has very thorough and helpful advice on many
home improvement projects.Very extensive and professional.
Then I started noticing the Lowes TV ads, also very refined
and well done. Their stores too, are neat and well stocked.
On Feb 12,02 I decided to take the plunge and became the
happy buyer of 1000 shares of "LOW" for $45,705 hard earned
dollars! It has gone down a bit since then but I'm not troubled!
As far as I'm concerned the value is there-price fluctuations
have been due to manipulations by "analysts", which I'll never
understand!
Everyone should read "Prediction Predilection" by William
Raspberry in Washington Post on March 11 which may help explain
strange stock fluctuations. As for me, I'm very happy to have
a small chunk of equity in this great company along with CAT,
HDI,and WMT which I've held since 1986 and have done quite
well, thank you. Great American companies All!
Sorry this is so brief. I'm a "H&P" (but determined) typist.
Comments are welcomed but not too much
technical and financial criticism please.
