My downfall is cheese -- the stronger the better.

Ditto re cheese!!! But relax. There have actually been studies demonstrating that dairy--full-fat dairy--is actually good for us. And especially if you get cheese from pastured animals, because their milk is high in anti-inflammatory omega-3 fats and low in inflammatory omega-6's. Sheep and goat milk cheeses automatically fall into that category, as they always go out to graze.

The first study I had read supporting the value of dairy was from Denmark. It was a very large data review, with people divided into those who regularly consume dairy and those who don't or do so only infrequently. The the risk of death from cardiovascular events was substantially higher in the low-to-no dairy group. And the age at death from all causes was significantly lower in that group as well.

The Mederi Center, which provides overall health guidance as well as treatment (especially for cancer patients) that is based on herbs and nutrients, and is deeply informed of the science behind what they do, just came out with a blog on the health benefits of dairy. I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but will--and will report back here with the conclusions and the link.
