INTRO Here's my semi-annual exercise to see if I remember why I own the stocks I own, and so I can check back and see if their stories have changed. I include the economy and markets to check my perception of the bigger picture. I post in case it helps others too.

Economy & Markets
I am a long term optimist and a short term realist. Fundamentally I think the US economy is strong compared to ten years ago, but various elements of it drastically swing the averages. Excesses in the financial sector and in government deficits are significant deterrents to stability, but I think the biggest short term issue is market and public psychology. Fear dominates most public discourse. Ideology dominates over practicality. (In)Stability in Europe seems to have more of an effect on the markets than earning reports. I believe we are in the midst of an irrational market (More commentary about that available on my blog ) and I am not enough of a psychologist, sociologist, or pundit to claim what will bring back optimism. Until then, I'll look to make money from other places than the stock market, and would probably buy in as discretionary funds become available. (It's been a while since I've seen those though.) In terms of buy low, sell high, I don't consider this market to be high. Down and depressed, but not high.

(Search on tktrimbath for the details of specific stocks that I own. Also, check for a broader discussion.)
