my favourite measurement is % net profit / cash invested per day
is that bad ?


Looks fine to me, but like most people I prefer to reason on an annualized basis in order to deal with "low percent" figures rather than basis points and fractions thereof (a 3% dividend for example is substantially less than a basis point per day -- 0.8 bp if you normalize the year to 365 days rather than looking at business-days only).
