INTRO Here's my semi-annual exercise to see if I remember why I own the stocks I own, and so I can check back and see if their stories have changed. I include the economy and markets to check my perception of the bigger picture. I post in case it helps others too.

Economy & Markets
The economy and the markets are vulnerable to capricious tweets. A recession seems to be a self-fulfilling prophecy. Trade wars can rise and fall in minutes. I think I’ll steer clear of such macro concerns for the next few months, or at least for today.

OK. That’s the way I feel. But I also admit to being drawn to news about the federal debt, gold reaching multi-year highs, Bitcoin bouncing back, and interest rates remaining low. Watching where the money goes shows money drawn to havens not innovations, to being pulled out of the liquid economy and into dead ends. The short term effects are safety and the preservation of capital. The long term effects are less money in the economy, greater wealth and income inequality; and opportunities for more competitive countries and companies. Maybe a rebirth of the innovation economy that won’t be apparent while waiting for startups to fire up?

I suspect some economic upsets in the near future, and disruptions in organizations led by overly-conservative management.

(I've also collected links to the other discussion boards and my other stocks over on my blog )
