My personal theory, having worked with a lot of CEOs, is that nobody is worth more than $2-3 a year for their effort on their day job.
Salary plus bonus plus options plus stock grants.

I suppose. After all, the CEO of a large company would need to delegate management of each business division to a VP or something, who would be a CEO in their own right if that division were spun off to a separate entity.

But then shouldn't the question be the cost of the entire executive staff?
