My question on bid/ask (and I've been completely unsuccessful in finding it in the FAQs or anywhere else on fool.com) is, what is the significance of a large difference between bid and ask vs. a small difference?

For example, many quotes will show up with a 3/4 difference and others with a 1/16 difference. What does that mean in terms of value, volume, direction the stock is headed, or anything else having anything informative to do with the stock?
