My wife and I did th esame thing a few years ago. Every time we have meet with a "professional" they push the poduct that they make the nost money on. We bought a VUL and it has not been too bad, largely due to the performance of the market.

However, looking back we would have been better off to max our 401K, fund our IRA and setup accounts for our daughter for her education.

If you decide on a VUL be sure you understand the fees and limitations. We are stuck staying in ours until 10 years or we are hit with a 15% penatly on the cash out. Something the pros never mentioned.

Also once we bought this policy our adivsor had several other savings plans for us to buy. He saved for his retirement very nicely.
