I've been browsing around the FOOL for a couple months and have learned some things about investing on my own. I still have a lot of learning to do, but at least I have a game plan to get myself started and would appreciate any and all advice.

Here's my game plan. I have an IRA in a variable annuity that I want to transfer to the FFRP. I won't be doing this until DEC. to lessen the surrender charges. First question: Does it matter when in DEC. I make the actual transfer of the IRA? Second question: When the actual transfer takes place x number of dollars is put in the shortfall cushion, how many $ is enough and since it comes out of the investment $ are the shortfall $ still considered to be in the IRA, therfore protected from taxation? Whew, I think I got lost for a minute!

I also have a CD coming due in DEC.(that was intentional timing,by the way). I plan on putting this into the FFRP also. I know for sure the better return comes from starting in DEC., but I'm NOT sure exactly when. My question is this: Since this will be my first experience at this (actually the second, but I'm not counting the IRA because it's a transfer of funds)and I'm really nervous, how early in DEC. can I put this money in the FFRP and still get the biggest bang (hopefully)?

I'm Fooling on slowly but surely! Thanks!!
