Neither Germany nor America is going to go to war to protect the interests of Daimler-Chrysler, but the crown of Spain would habitually war to protect its silver trade. I wonder. You don't even have to go back as far as the Spanish empire. United Fruit and the USMC--also ITT and Chile--come to mind. Don't forget that we've had a few lovely little wars recently--Grenada, Panama, and the Gulf War. Whose interests were really being protected?
