G'day,
I'm on my L plates and exploring my options. Can anyone tell me (1) what has been the average annual growth for the All ords over an extended period-has it matched the Dow Jones?)and (2) what are some of the index funds in Australia (or would I maybe be better off investing in a US index fund?).
Thanks for any help
Peter

dear peter

here are the stats in 1997 from Dow Jones.
             1 Year 3 Year 5 Year 10 Year
Dow Jones 22.64% 106.24 139.56 307.89

The Dow Recorded in 1998 a 15.26% gain and in 1999 a 25.18% gain.

Colonial First State reported that the period in a different format for the All Ords.

1987: -7.9% 1988: 17.9% 1989: 17.4% 1990: -17.5%
1991: 34.2% 1992: -2.3% 1993: 45.4% 1994: -8.7%
1995: 20.2% 1996: 14.6% 1997: 12.2% 1998: 11.6%
1999: 11.29%

Some of the Australian Index Funds are from Commonwealth Bank who has an All Ords fund that can be traded on the ASX, Vanguard also has an Australian Fund based on the All Ords.

Of the overseas funds, Vanguard does not have a specific US index fund (although i wish they did !!).
It has the MSCI global fund. Good luck.

Lance

I'll let you work it out, since i don't have the time to do so.
