Natural MicroSystems profits beat estimates

FRAMINGHAM, Mass., July 13 (Reuters) - Communications
software maker Natural MicroSystems Corp. <NMSS.O> on Thursday
reported second-quarter earnings more than double the 11 cents
a share expected by Wall Street.
The company also set a two-for-one stock split.
For the quarter, Natural MicroSystems said it earned 24
cents a share, excluding a special one-time gain of 5 cents a
share, on 17.5 million shares outstanding. A year earlier, the
company reported a loss of 32 cents a share on 11.4 million
shares outstanding.
According to First Call/Thomson Financial, analysts'
consensus earnings estimate was 11 cents a share.
Including the special one-time gain, from the sale of a
privately held company in which Natural MicroSystems had
invested, second-quarter earnings were $5 million, or 29 cents
per share.
The company said second-quarter revenues topped $32.1
million, compared with $17.6 million in the second quarter of
1999.
The stock split will be paid on Aug. 7 to stockholders of
record at the close of business on July 24.
