I reckon that he figured that he was a marked man. The clergy had already tried to kill him once on trumped up charges and most likely would have done so again.

I figure that he high tailed it out on the Middle East and went to join the Jewish folks in Kashmir. For the record, DNA testing shows that the folks in Kadshmir and the Israeli Jews are related.
