I am hereby nominating John Sergeant for the Feste Award. A CAPs All Star, John is a Top 30 Favorite Fool, the Red Team Captain from SuperNova's Space Camp and a Ticker Guide for Stock Advisor. He was also one of the Foolish leaders who pushed last Winter's Foolanthropy to record heights. JSergeant has been a Fool for 16 years and embodies all the principals of Fooldom.

John is a prolific poster on the premium service discussion boards and a frequent visitor to the public side as well. Not only does John post, but he also reads. And recommends. He is nurturing to other Fools, encouraging them to post by engaging in conversation and giving out well deserved Recs.

Now I realize this award is for contributions to The Motley Fool in 2013, but you have to understand that John hit the ground running with his first post to the discussion boards back in April, 2003 when he posted Netflix subscribership numbers to the company's public discussion board:

He went on the Netflix FAQ on the company's public which you can still read today:

John is from New Jersey and proud of it and can often be found posting to the Folly in New Jersey discussion board, kicking off lengthy discussions:

John was very active on the discussion board, a New Jersey company, until the board was closed after the company's acquisition by I think if he could, he would still be posting there. To be fair, TMF kept the Pixar discussion board open long after Disney bought them from Steve Jobs.

On the Premium Service side, John was named the Stock Advisor Ticker Guide for Apple, creating a new FAQ for subscribers:

Recognized as a true Foolish leader, John was appointed Captain of the Red Team for Supernova's Space Camp mission. He launched the mission with an objective analysis of all four squads:

John likes a good competition, as seen by this recap of a mission challenge that he won (not surprisingly, about Netflix) over a fellow Fool back a year ago April:

John has a great sense of humor as can be seen in this early 2013 post where he dissects the Space Camp competition and lays out his strategy for victory:

John is a competitive man but he knows how to have fun with it. He took it upon himself to replicate the Rule Breaker challenge (which I won back in 2010) in Stock Advisor. In 2013, he united 138 fellow SA Fools in investing fellowship. In this post, he announces the 2013 winner and conducts his own interview so all Stock Advisor members can learn from the contest:

John doesn't do things half way, so when he posted a tutorial/online seminar in the Stock Advisor Options discussion board in 2013, he earned earned 25 recs and 20 replies:

Last year, John also led an Fool effort to create an Introduction to Options, organizing his fellow Fools to participate and contribute.

Ever the adventurer, he launched his own Stock Advisor Put and Covered Call Million Dollar Portfolio. With his his trademark sense of humor, John wrote:

The portfolio has been initially funded by $1 million of bitcoins which huibs mined when he had the thankless task of janitor on the Red Rocket in the recent Supernova Space Camp. Little did we know that all the time huibs was toiling down below, he was creating a fortune in bitcoins which he could use to fund his retirement.

John not only created the portfolio, but a spreadsheet to track it's performance:

John also won the MF Options Foolish Anniversary contest with this post about his favorite fruit:

Lastly, and this is the post that made me fully understand the generosity and commitment of JSergeant to the Foolish ideas, John threw himself 150% into 2013's Foolathropy effort. Inspired by fellow Fools akaprimo and Duwango, John pledged to donate $5 to Pencils of Promise for every rec of his post, $5 for every reply to the post, and $10 for every new member in the 2014 Stock Advisor Challenge. This is on top of his own generous donation to The Motley Fool's designated charity.

Then just to put the icing on the cake, John topped off the donations to make sure the campaign reached $100,000.

It is for his incredible generosity both with his money and his time, his dedication to educating his fellow Fools, his devotion to enriching Fools following the companies he carefully guides, and his sense of humor and good will in everything he does, that I nominate John Sergeant for the 2013 Feste Award.

Who thinks John deserves this nomination as much for his contributions to The Motley Fool in the past year as for the whole of his 16 years as a Fool...
