Greetings,

In an attempt to make merry and honor the great contributors to the Fool community, we've decided to create The Feste Award. As many of you know, Feste was a great Shakespearian Fool and a soothsayer to the King. We'd like to bestow The Feste Award on one member of the community that best exemplifies our mission of Learning Together:

http://www.fool.com/community/mission.htm

Because this is a community award, the nominations for this award should bubble up from within. We'd like to use this discussion board to accept your nominations for The Feste Award. In order to nominate someone, you must include the following:

- member name
- a few paragraphs detailing why this person deserves the award
- links to 3 posts from this year (2001) that exemplify this person's dedication to the community and to Learning Together

We'll accept submissions through November 15, review them internally, and whittle the list down to 10 candidates. From there, we'll let the community vote. We'll announce the winner of The Feste Award sometime in December.

Have some fun with this and be as creative as you'd like in your nomination.

Best,

David Forrest

I may get kicks in the shins from my coworkers, but I don't think a TMF should win simply because we'll be making the editorial decision to whittle the list down, and because this is our job. I'm proud of our TMF team, but this should probably be someone outside of the company.

Best,

Are there limits as to which boards the person posts on? If the person posts on social boards, or posts on money/finance related boards as opposed to the stock boards, may we still nominate them?

problem is, picking which one out of so many.

Yes Bogey,
I nominate Tom whose ID is 1000. He has been a Team Co-Leader in many TMF Seminars and even signs up when he is not a team leader so he can assist in his usual kind and patient manner. He was instrumental in getting the "Foolish Collective RM March 2001" board going as it developed out of the RM Seminar Grad Board. He is still leading that board with the same dedication that shows in the seminars

I would like to nominate Ev - Wallstgal. She is one of the most generous, caring people I have ever come across. As a newcomer I was amazed at her kindness. Not only did she give me, and others, fabulous research information, but she helped me with learning the computer as well as lots and lots of tips. She goes out of her way to help people and she's not afraid to disagree with someone, in a very courtesy manner. She's great.

She has posted numerous times and has lots of recommendations and has been A MF leader. Some of her posts are on the Foolish Collective #3629, 3627 and 3234 and loads more.

- a few paragraphs detailing why this person deserves the award

All by herself, with little or no assistance from her frequently underway Navy husband, she developed a series of procedures for making the most out of the pay I get from the Navy. Despite numerous moves (including two trans-Atlantic transfers) and the difficulty in holding a job that entails, she has not only managed our money, but managed it so well that we own a house (which is rented to three sailors since we've been transferred again), dabble in the Markets, put lots of money away in the bank, have low utility bills and still moved across the country without financial hardship. Furthermore, she shares her knowledge and experience on several message boards, and even started up a new board to do more of it. Part of what she does is post articles from frugal living magazines and newsletters (always posting the copyright information and providing links) to help others manage limited incomes.

And she does all this while efficiently running a household consisting of herself, a busy military husband, and a varying number of animals- including the two cats that live with us. meow the award, she oughta be nominated for sainthood!

I'm an army brat. Know something about army brats? When they find a place they will stay in, they nail their feet to the floor. You, as a navy wife, know what I mean when I say that one day you'll set anchor and that's it.

Lord love you. The Navy doesn't have it but there should be a Navy Wife's Medal. It's not that your partner is transferred to Oooblie Dooblie but that the family has to pack, once again, new schools for the kids, new places to shop, und so weiter. Yes, there's support services but it comes down to being new kid on the block and that goes for the whole family.

I counted up the number of schools I attended and it's the same as if I were an itinerant bum. The upside? I learned to make friends quickly. The downside, I had to leave them as quickly. So much for grade ten.

I have nailed my feet to the floor and, damn it, I ain't moving ever. I've been in this place for more than ten years and, with each passing day, I revel. May you have this, real soon.

Bogey:

I'd like to nominate "Impliedvolatilty" for TMF's Feste Award. This guy not only knows his stuff but delivers it with a pungency that is rare among TMF posters.

I came across "Implied" a year or so ago when he first showed up on the CSCO board. In those days it was an apostasy to doubt the CSCO religion; no limits to the company's growth prospects or its share price. "Implied" was one of the very first to let some of the hot air out of CSCO's super-inflated balloon. And he did it with facts, not conjecture.

Recently, "Implied" has taken to the sidelines because this market doesn't really challenge his analytical abilities. Since everything he's forecasted has come true, why beat a dead horse? But once life returns to the market I'm sure we'll find "Implied" making bold, bullish forecasts on stocks with the best chances of earning a solid return for those who value his insights.

Here are few of "Implied's" posts that are worth reading, especially with the benefit of hindsight.

Wow! How to whittle down? How to follow the criteria for selection?

For about a year and a half I have been frequenting the 2 DRIP boards and its newest spin off "Canada-DRIPs".

These boards exemplify to me what the FOOL is supposed to be:

A learning guide for beginners or experts in a community atmosphere with a little humour tacked on.

The DRIP boards are definitely a community for the small investor who wants to take charge. It is practically a cult. It is amazing how people jump in to help others. There is virtually zero "sniping" and a heck of a lot of good natured fun while we support each other's investmenting. Where else are you going to learn about investing while discussing exploding cows in Austria, sock puppets as advisors, how to correctly fold certificates and Buffy the Berkshire Killer (my wife)?

Who to nominate? There are so many good ones: exilion, DFish, nsausa, dabrock, GinnyW, GLSmyth, Japper, doowah. The list goes on. They all contribute and amazingly if there is a post I see elsewhere I think they can help on I alert them and they jump in there too.

So, I'm going to nominate all 3 DRIP boards: Companies, the Basics and Canada DRIPs because we act as a team.

If you won't let me do that at the risk of offending my other cyber-buddies I'm going to go out in left field (actually he'd probably prefer right field) and nominate the DRIP boards "iconoclastic anti-hero":

Vulstock

Vulstock can often say more by posting a single link than the rest of us can in 10 paragraphs. His views are sometimes at odds with others yet at the same time ask a question and he is a cyber-encyclopedia and always responds to calls for help.

The reason I've chose him over my other friends is because by doing the "single link" posts I think this extremely valuable person could be over looked.

Will the nominees be notified that they have been nominated, either before or after the winnowing or awarding? I'm asking because many names will be put forth from more unusual or less popular Boards and may stand little chance of winning, but they should at least have the pleasure of knowing they were suggested.

Also, what is the best way to navigate around this Board?

I nominate John Greaney for The Feste Award.

Member Name: Intercst

Intercst has been a Registered Fool since May, 1988.

In addition to having established his own forum, namely; Speakers Corner/Retire Early Home Page, Intercst has posted 4954 messages and received 10316 recommendations. This is clearly an indication of how others view the importance and relevance of what he has to say.

Additionally, Intercst has shown a keen interest in helping others by providing personal insight and helpful links to other data or background information, such as posts 53172, 53519 and 53310, and the many substantive articles on his home page: http://RetireEarlyHomePage.com

I heartily agree.

Over two years ago, I was searching the internet for information about retiring early, and I came across John's web site, http://www.retireearlyhomepage.com. From there, The Motley Fool's Retire Early Home Page board was only a click away, and I've been here every day since, and---more importantly---so has John.

Not only did he develop a web site to educate and encourage those who want to retire early, John continues to post pertinent information and eagerly answers even the simplest questions.

Early on, his posts managed to attract a key set of members with a wealth of experience that really got the board rolling. These luminaries, like John, continue to contribute on a daily basis, and over 54,000 posts can't be wrong.

Later, after stocks declined and many people's portfolios were impacted, John's research and postings on safe retirement rates convinced many to resist panicking and concentrate on the long-term picture.

At a time when he was taking public criticism for these long-term views, he could have just disappeared, but instead John chose to defend his positions, and continue being the board's greatest contributor.

Through The Motley Fool, John convinced me to take the plunge into early retirement, and I've thoroughly enjoyed it ever since.

I hope TMF thoroughly recognizes John for all he has done.

Intercst keeps me coming back to TMF every day. No other board or column has the draw that Intercst's REHP Board does. His contributions to other boards are always welcome as well. He provides a wealth of information on the topics of his interest in addition to his renown wit. I suspect there is a large population drawn to the Fool either directly or indirectly by Intercst and the sub-culture he has nurtured within the Fool community.

Hello David,

Y2Krash aka Matt Tomkins is my favorite Fool and our NPI board is the reason why I am an addicted-lurker. You may be interested to know that I am barely an investor at this stage. But the amount of information that I gather AND UNDERSTAND about my own industry (IT) is truly phenomenal. Altghough I have over 30 years of practice in the field, I NEVER got this level of insight before. Thanks also to TMF.

From his Official welcome to the New Paradigm Investing Board at http://boards.fool.com/Message.asp?mid=14456886

« This message board is intended as a forum for the objective discussion of technologies and companies not for hyping or bashing of any kind. Although we more than welcome opinions contrary to our own, extreme unsubstantiated claims will not even earn the dignity of a response. Posting links to exceptional articles is encouraged as it provides everyone with an insightful new viewpoint »

Here are 3 posts of interest from Matt.

http://boards.fool.com/Message.asp?mid=14676517&sort=recommendations is an educational post about the Application Server market and BEAS. Any article in his newsletter posess the same breadth.

In http://boards.fool.com/Message.asp?mid=15581333 Matt explains his views and shares his doubts on the current technology market conditions/valuations.

http://boards.fool.com/Message.asp?mid=15566621&sort=recommendations is a post where Matt clearly gets in a discussion where he feels some Moderator's guidance is needed. Again he explains why. We learn together.

My vote goes to Y2Krash.

And by the way, this Feste award is a great way to get to know other great contributors. Thanks.

I will nominate eudaimon6 for his contributions to the Managing Your Finances/Buying & Maintaining A Car Board for the following reasons:

1. He knows whatof he speaks. He is the finance man at a multi-line dealership and is up on all current deveopments in vehicle financing.
2. His interest in auto dealing is not limited to his job. He stresses the importance of find a good honest dealership to do business with and in being forthright in your own end of the bargain. Judging from his comments, he is personnally interested in cars too, as well as Harleys.
3. He is very patient with people who are often quite confused about financial matters, and will often go to great lengths to fashion examples to explain a concept.
4. He usually agrees with me, although he is a lot better at providing explanations than I am, especially to the confused or rude questions.

All his Posts are so good, I'm just using three in a row from the same day as examples:

Hello, David.

I'm just under the wire for making my nominations for the Feste Award. I'm still not sure exactly what qualifies people for this award. If it's stock assessment, my nominations won't "fly." But if it's promoting what this site does wonderfully, I hope the two folks I have in mind will be considered.

Beccapooka, and the Quitting Smoking Board. I just recently joined this board, not because I'm quitting smoking - I did that 12+- years ago. But a member of the another board (as well as the QS board) saw a post I made congratulating her on the decison to fight the Nicotine Battle, and invited me to the Quitting Smoking board. From what I can tell in reading several hundred of the posts there, this board, and Becca, provide the supportive environment that helps people make it through this difficult life challenge. Not stocks, but certainly a life-improving environment, so I nominate it. Hopefully the Fool is about more than just stocks.

In that light, I also nominate one of your employees, TMFRavynous, for this award. He's a wonderful proponent of the boards, a facilitator of communication between boards (I ended up on GOLP as a result of his posts on Pet Lovers). This man is a complete advocate of the Fool, participates on many boards, and facilitates communication of members across boards, encouraging communication on multiple boards. Several months back, I opened a cooking-related board (with the "spin" that it doesn't require/demand recipes, but is open to topics related to cooking), and TMFRaynous has been active in suggesting other members visit my board. Again, he doesn't represent stocks as a reason to be involved in this Community (and a wonderful Community it is!), but rather common interests.

I used to visit many boards when I "surfed." Now, I spend most of my time online at The Fool - the others are non-visited "favorite" links. You've dramatically improved your offerings with regard to stock quotes and analysis, and you also offer a diverse community environment, in which people with different "foci" s can meet and discuss matters relevant to their personal needs. You ROCK, Fools!

As an aside, have you considered offering Internet service to your Foolish following? I wonder if there aren't many of us who would happily pay for our Internet service via the Fool, especially if it provided us with access to the boards and other Fool data. I would, and I'm sure others would as well (Please pass this on to the appropriate person there, if you think apropriate (or I can go back and look at the last Foolish survey of users, in which I participated).

Regards and believing The Fool is an enterprise with the potential to last,
