Non-Cellular Converged Devices: The New Maemo-Linux Nokia 810 Internet Tablet ...

... with Touchscreen AND slideout QWERTY keyboard (and presumably BT portable keyboard support like the N800):

The scheduled announcement (and specs) are evidently due later today although conflicting reports say October 23rd for the announcement. Photos look PDG.

This explains the fact that the N800 IT is now available here in the USA at for the recently dramatically reduced throwaway price of $239 delivered, and I think I may order one (although I'll wait for specs/price on the N810 which is starting to look less like a skunkworks project than its 2 predecessors) ...

There is a good N800 infomercial (conducted by a Nokia rep) at the 1st of the two links directly above.

If the N810 includes GPS or ideally GPS/A-GPS Navigation I may forgo the N800 purchase. The SIRF powered (I think it's SIRF powered but haven't confirmed) BT enabled Navigation kit (~$200) with Navicore 2007 navigation software is optional on the N800.

<< Also, the GPS device is likely to get absorbed into the phone. >>

Nokia is leading that charge. They are in early to the nasent converged device PND segment as a result of its gGate5 acquisition and the pending NAVTEQ acquisition, it's soon to launch Ovi portal (with Nokia Maps), the shipping Nokia 330 and 500 Auto Navigation devices, N800 Tablet Navigation kit, as ell as the Symbian/S60 based Nokia N95, Nokia 6110 Navigator, E90 Communicator, and several other devices coming on stream (about 20 devices anticipated in 2008). More on this emerging market here ...
