Does your plan allow an extension to use the money? Federal law was changed a few years ago so that even though the contributions are put in during a 12 month period, plans are allowed to give you a 15 month period to use the money. Not all plans take advantage of this, but if yours does, it gives you an extra 3 months to try to spend it.
