Not likely to be the answer, but...

One ethernet port on the router is different from the rest. That one gets connected to the modem. The other ports are for your computers and other devices. Double check that the modem is connected to the right one.

Perhaps more useful, here is a list of board messages sorted by name, paged to somewhere within your name. Maybe it will help you find the old thread? Scroll back and forth, maybe you will recognize something. Once you pick a message choose the option to view the entire thread.
