Now I'm home shopping, which means I'm also mortgage shopping. I'd like to bump my credit score, and I have two accounts in collections, both a few years old.

I'd like to try the same trick again, but before I do, I thought it best to ask here for advice.

Anything I should know before I send my offer letters?

It was hard to get a pay for delete back then. It's probably even harder now, because there have been new regulations about accurate reporting passed that some creditors claim doesn't allow them to delete accurate information. And your accounts were apparently accurately in collections. If you can't get the creditor to delete it, remember that a paid collection is better than an account still in collections, and a 'paid in full' collection is better than a 'settled for less than owed' collection.

Again, do everything in writing before you pay.
