Now I'm researching Windows machines and the market is very difficult to assess.... It seems like all of the ratings are funded by the PC makers!!

Any thoughts on this?

I live in a Microsoft free world except for LibreOffice which is an Excel knockoff but it runs native on Mac as far as I know. My most important usage is my Portfolio which I have converted almost completely to a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) webapp which is great because it does not depend on any particular OS. The same code runs on a web server and on any laptop.

Having been a Mac developer for over 35 years I have no intention of buying a Window product. Having also been an Excel developer I can say that M$ treats their developers better than Apple. At least it was so when I was active. It's a crazy world! ;)
