New York has required professional tax preparers register with the state for several years now. However, they are moving into the regulation arena with this announcement: http://www.governor.ny.gov/press/03032014-new-regulations-ta...

Basically, existing preparers will have to take a competency exam and 4 hours CE each year. New preparers will need 16 hours to begin.

From the consumers standpoint I can see some pros and cons with this requirement. What do the professionals think about it? Does it affect the VITA and TCE preparers?
