I bought my first shares in ALSK 02/05. I researched the company and thought it looked ok (big dividend payout offset the risks), but reading some of these pre-05 posts got me wondering if there was a management changeover shortly before I bought. I think there was, and from what I just read, I hope there was since my opinion of the earnings reports and conference calls since I bought is optimistic. I do wonder about the ultimate growth prospects within Alaska, but on the other hand, a 7.1% dividend (9.4% of my cost basis) means it doesn't have to grow very much to earn a decent overall return. My biggest worry is that although they are paying a fat dividend, they are simultaneously reporting substantial losses.
