https://news.grabien.com/story-ocasio-cortez-millennials-wer...

Al Gore and Ted Danson were first. Around 12 years ago they stated that we only had 10 years before Global Warming would destroy us and it would be irreversible. That was 12 or so years ago.

Now Ocasio-Cortez says the same thing. But she is even more serious about it.

Beyond that she says that there are armies of people who are living in their cars so they can work their second jobs to make ends meet.

Where does she get this load of crapulence? She is on record as stating that the unemployment rate is so low because everyone is working two jobs to make it happen. She cites no statistics or studies or any such thing. She simply reaches conclusions that are absurd and states them as if they were revolutionary fact.

I represent a lot of people from all income levels. I know their employment and finances intimately. I have one client who is working 3 jobs and zero clients who are working more than 1 job. In regard to opposing parties I cannot recall any that are working more than 1 job. I do not know anyone personally who is working more than one job. I know of none, and never have known anyone who lives in their car so they can work two jobs. Yes, I have seen the aberrational cases in California of people living in their cars (but that is quite aberrational and had nothing to do with the economy).

And yet she wishes to create revolutionary change, World War III as she cites it in importance, to stop Global Warming (Climate Change in the winter time) from killing all of us within the next 10 years, and that somehow this army of car dwellers exists.

Did not Boston University teach her to prove her thesis? Apparently facts and figures and obtaining said were discouraged in Boston University's economic department because obtaining said would have wiped out their ideology.

I wish I was making this stuff up.

Tinker,

Ocasio-Cortez is simply appealing to her base. Very much like what Trump does.

Trump says "build a wall" to stop the invading hordes.

O-C cries "climate change apocalypse".

Remember, they are politicians. They are all blowhards.

Alan,

Unfortunately she is a blow hard like Sean Penn is and like Maduro is. She is an ideologue who actually believes the crapulence. Certainly she is a politician, of course, but that is not what motivates her. She is a true believer in her nonsense.

Remember, she represents a Democratic district that re-elected a conventional Democrat for too many years to count. Only about 15,000 people in that entire district voted for her in the primary. If the incumbent Democrat had decided to run as an independent thereafter he probably would have defeated her plus the Republican.

Thus, her base in her district is not so wild and radical as she. Most political forces start off as "kooks". In the American Revolution, very few people actually participated in the war or even cared. It was only those energized who did. In Red Russia, Lenin had a clear minority but won due to energized base and a horribly awful use of violence. In Nazi Germany an also ran, who never quit, conquered a civilized nation with a minority again. Never ignore a very motivated ideologue and make excuses for them that they do not really believe what they say.

History is ripe with such people believing exactly what they say and writing about it well before hand, only to have moderates state "they did not really mean it."

In today's America she already goes in with California and New York in her pocket, not to mention Washington, Oregon, and most of the Northeast. That is one heck of a base for some charismatic ideologue to bring the entire ship down with them.

But for now she is a harmless waif with what appears to be an I.Q. of a butterfly of lesser intelligence. In fact she would be unable to hold a discussion on this very board.

Exactly. They are both the exact same.

I had thought Boston University was a fairly rigorous academic university.....but quite obviously, Ocasia-Cortez is an idiot of monumental proportion. She has said so many ridiculous false statements that BU should be rebranded as BS university.

She is an embarrassment beyond compare.

I’ve known a lot of highest educated people who had no common sense. She is one of them.

However, I can see people voting for her....she’s black/ethnic, she speaks well, and she’s a woman and since Hillary lost the last election, some people will vote for her because she’s a woman and since she’s black...yeah, that too. Plus, she’s Dem. so, the people who vote for the party will go for her.
This happened with O, black, talked good, but in essence, an empty suit.

It’s scary out there, all this talk about the glories of socialism, they know not what they’re saying and what history tells us.

I have one client who is working 3 jobs and zero clients who are working more than 1 job.

Proves that people with two jobs don't need lawyers or they are too busy to hire one.

😇 Just having fun in the morning...

It was a long time ago, 60 years, when I flunked out of MIT they gave me two condition for readmission. One was getting decent grades at another school for a semester or two. BU was an easy college to get into and it didn't have much of a reputation. But that was a long time ago.

The other condition was to get a Summer job. My dad got me one with the IBM Service Bureau in Caracas -- IBM management were clients at my dad's hotel. That was a life definer. After IBM I went to BU, back to MIT but quit half way through the Fall semester. Then I got my first full time job as a programer at the IBM Service Bureau.

I never had so much fun, they paid me to play games with the computer, or so it seemed! I got to solve a huge variety of problems -- that was a real education!

<< ...she (O-C) is a blow hard like Sean Penn.... >>

Precisely.

The brilliance of the American system of governance is that our leaders are elected, rather than being determined by birthright (like the European royalty of the preceding 1,200 years).

It is also one of our biggest flaws.

In virtually all other areas of modern life--including the military, medicine, the judiciary, and certainly sports--prominence & influence is based on merit. Yes, meritocracy can be flawed, too. We can mis-judge merit. People can lie about their merits (remember Bernie Madoff?). But these are exceptions rather than the rule.

But politicians are different. They get power and influence via their popularity. They are, in effect, participating in an un-ending beauty contest.

We live in a pop culture. And "pop" is short for popular.

Take music as an example:

Up through the decade following WWII, the musicians of note were geniuses (think Charlie Parker and John Coltrane as the end of that line). Then came the advent of pop.

Now in the '80's (for example) Madonna sold more records and more people attend her concerts in a month than Duke Ellington did in entire lifetime....literally. But no one ever mistook Madonna for a good musician.

Since my childhood, all politicians (with the possible exception of Ronald Reagan) have been clowns. And they our clowns by our popular collusion.

I pay little attention to O-C. Her 15 minutes of fame will be over soon. Of course, that's what I said about The Donald!!

Yes, I'm sure she does.

And each state's entrant believes she should be crowned Miss America.

I'm also sure that George H. Bush actually believed he would enact "no new taxes".
And George "Dubya" Bush believed there were weapons of mass destruction hidden somewhere in Iraq.
Bill Clinton seem to believe that he "didn't have sex with that woman".
And I'm sure that Donald Trump believes he was a self-made billionaire.

But to perseverate....they are all clowns.

Show me a Winston Churchill; bring me a Ronald Reagan. Then I will start to listen.

I would be careful about your imitating Trump and his name calling of Waters ... in both cases you may find out that the person you were trying to dismiss as low IQ has been quite a bit more effective than you expect.
