On one hand, there are reports that less than half of the available coronavirus vaccine has been administered....

On the other hand, vaccination providers everywhere report that they are totally out of vaccines and are canceling appointments by the thousands.

One answer that I've run across is the suggestion that the drugstore chains that received contracts to vaccinate residents and staff of care homes haven't used most of the doses that were allocated to them. I've seen reports that half or more of nursing-home employees have refused vaccination, and it wouldn't surprise me if an equal proportion of residents have refused, or can't be vaccinated because they can't give valid consent. I also wonder whether the chains had adequate personnel to give the number of vaccinations they contracted for.
