On the bright-side, sociologist will have a good 'chuckle of reflection' decades and maybe centuries in the future when they browse through the Fool website boards.

The boards are probably stored on spinning hard drives, or just possibly, on solid state drives. Probably it will be possible to recover stuff from the spinning hard drives a decade from now, but centuries? Do you think someone at TMF will bother to write a conversion system from today's media to tomorrow's?

When the switch was made to 9-track magnetic tape from 7-track tape, no one could go to the trouble and expense of converting until too late: there were no working 7-track tape drives anymore. We had many many thousand reels of 7-track tape. All scrapped.

Think of the cost of converting Betamax video tapes to VHS. Then to DVD. Then to Youtube and Vimeo. Then what? All those home videos will be lost. For me: good riddance! But your views and mine on which should go to the great bit-bucket in the sky would probably differ.
