One would logically assume she paid plenty of $$ into FICA and is therefore entitled to collect.

One might logically assume that, but one would probably we wrong. She was a book author, and as such had no "weekly wages" that were subject to FICA (or Medicare taxes.) The only time a book author gets paid is upon publication, or an advance, and then it all comes at once. This sort of "royalty income" is subject to FICA as "self employment" wages, but since it is clumpy, it's likely that several years pass with no income (therefore no tax) and then a year comes with great income, of which only the first (now) $110,000 is taxable (amounts lower during her lifetime.)

Maybe it's worth recalling that she extracted *far more* than she put in, simply because after her multiple surgeries for lung cancer (she was a heavy smoker; love that "self-reliance" aspect) she was bankrupted and relied on the government for support, both to pay her medical bills and to social security for her modest income.

Perhaps she did not see the irony, but I see the blatant hypocrisy, both of her and of her acolytes who conveniently explain away this obvious dichotomy, where the great leader of objectivism is saved not by her own heroic measures in life, but by a program which she hated and tried to destroy throughout her career.
