Radiant Systems commences global OrderPoint at the pump campaign

Aiming at Petroleum/Convenience Store Industry, Radiant Systems promotes its OrderPoint(tm) and MediaClient(tm) Technology

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 10, 1998-- Radiant Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: RADS - news), a leading provider of integrated technology solutions to retailers worldwide, has commenced a global campaign to sell its state-of-the-art, graphical interface and ordering technology for c-store gasoline dispensers. Known as OrderPoint,(tm) this touch screen product integrates with fuel dispensers and propels consumers through an extraordinary, interactive shopping experience.

Progressive new pilot programs with international content providers delivers up-to-minute audio and video information for consumers. In addition to internet-driven news, weather and sports, OrderPoint content is also driven by retailer and vendor promotions. Radiant Systems has tapped into its extensive base of thousands of stores, signing on several innovative retailers to deploy the technology.

To help drive the effort, Radiant Systems has hired Phil Snare, formerly of The Leo Burnett Advertising Company. Mr. Snare is a veteran of Leo Burnett's Client Service department, working with such notable clients as Kellogg's, Proctor & Gamble, Philip Morris, Nintendo, Minute Maid and United Airlines. He gained extensive experience working with packaged goods marketers in Europe, Latin America, Asia and the U.S. Radiant Systems will rely on this experience to market its OrderPoint(tm) technology.

OrderPoint introduces powerful new merchandising concepts by combining fuel dispensing, with on-screen messages and the ability to order fast food with a credit card as part of the fuel transaction. Integration with most leading dispenser products is already underway, and the company will shortly be piloting the product in the emerging OrderPoint grocery store and hypermarket retail segments.

``The on-screen messages at the pump deliver the kind of video and audio experience you'd expect from your TV at home while providing the personalized interaction from a touch screen that you would get from the internet,' comments Rollie White, Director of Marketing for Petroleum/C-Store at Radiant Systems. ``Importantly, it extends the ability of our clients to deliver value-added service with captive messages at the pump...typically messages that bring timely product, service or news information to the attention of the consumer during the time it takes to fuel a vehicle,' continues Mr. White. The news information is updated throughout the day while the product and service information can be rotated depending on the advertiser and retailer business objectives.

Radiant Systems, Inc. provides integrated technology solutions to retailers in the petroleum/convenience store, automotive, entertainment, and hospitality industries. These solutions include consumer-activated ordering, point of sale, back office management, headquarters management, and decision support systems. The Company also provides a full range of solution design, implementation, and support services. The Company is headquartered in Atlanta and has installations in thousands of retail sites around the world.

Personal opinion: I thought hyping their marketing guy was sort of cheesy, and I'm not qualified to comment on their business model, but you have to admit that the concept they're piloting is very cool. The new Radiant touchscreens will be driven with Windows CE, and they've already got lab demos of cash registers surfing the Web with Internet Explorer, etc. >8->

Have Fun,
