Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK) has just landed a lucrative contract with the US Army, beating Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) and AM General (the maker of the Humvee) to the punch.

The army awarded a $6.75 billion fixed-price contract to the firm to build Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs) that are slated to replace Humvees. Oshkosh plans to start with building 17,000 vehicles a year for the first three years, and then ramping up to full production for the last five.

Breaking Defense is calling this "a historic JLTV win" for Oshkosh. Chris Ziegler of the Verge praises Oshkosh's JLTV as "the badass truck replacing the US military's aging Humvees."
