Just looking at it they would have to be to get that beast off the ground with those relatively small rotors?

A rotor is basically a wing that goes round and round to get it's lift rather than using forward speed like an aircraft. In the Sea Kings if we lost an engine in the dip at night while heavy with fuel we had to immediately cut the sonar cable and try to convert our 40' of altitude into forward speed for a running single engine landing on the water. Statistically the odd were crappy over the North Atlantic that is rarely calm.

Many of our people had a fear of night dipping, somehow I got over that but did tend to bail out of our bed in the middle of the night landing on my knees for a few years after I became a programmer! That too eventually went away. Four tours in Seakings was very rare ... with good reason.
