March 24, 2004 -- Don Imus called CBS's Lesley Stahl a "gutless, lying weasel" yesterday for abruptly canceling an interview during which Imus planned to hammer her about conflict-of-interest allegations.

"I realize it's a little late in your life, honey, to start gettin' honest, but just say 'I don't want to appear on the program . . . because I heard what he said earlier this morning,' " Imus railed.

What Imus had said earlier is that he was going to ask Ms. Stahl about 60 Minutes' segment on Richard Clarke and his book which is critical of the Bush admin about terrorism. The book's publisher is owned by Viacom which also owns 60 Minutes, but the staff of 60 Minutes was too dishonest to disclose that connection (not to mention too dishonest to give such prominent voice to any of the many books critical of the previous admin or supportive of the current one).

Imus went on to call Stahl "one of the more dishonest members of the media" for going so easy on Clarke.

"She did everything but slip her tongue in his ear," said sidekick Bernard McGuirk.

"No wonder Fox [News Channel] is killing people [in the ratings] - because people hate these people [liberal media left-wing toadies]," said Imus.

P.S. Imus is no Bush fan and opposed the Iraq war but he's an honest guy
