When four wolves managed to cross a rare ice bridge to an island some years back they set about wiping out the 700 caribou on the island. In desperation helicopters are being used to move the few surviving caribou to a different island with no wolves.

The article caught my attention because the new home for the decimated herd is very close (~ 40 Km) to the small town I grew up in. Seems to me it would have been easier to shoot the wolves (there are lots of them up there) but clearly something missing from the story that I first saw on our news channel.
