There are many ways to use technical analysis. I have read about many of them but only use a few. I also follow a few.

Here is what I use or at least follow.

1. I use trend following to decide to get into or out of an asset class, or sector.
2. I have used relative strength.
3. I pay attention, to the advance decline line.
4. I pay attention to the number of new highs versus new lows.
5. If a stock is dropping, but the market is not, I think that the market may know something about the stock, that is not in the financial statements yet. Enron was a good example of this.
6. For a small part of my portfolio, I use trend following to time the market. (it has worked)
7. I also use sentiment indicators. Here are some that I use.
a. The Vix
b. AAII Investor Sentiment Survey
c. S&P 500 Put/Call Ratio
8. What I hope to do is someday, note when there is a lot of panic, and use it as an opportunity to buy.

How do other people use technical analysis?
