I know it's a cheap shot, but couldn't help posting a couple of gems from the site of St. Edward's University, Austin TX:

The first intelligent hominid was australopithecus. This is evidenced by his use of fire. The use of fire allowed this hominid to develop physically since fire frees protein in food. Chardin found remains of Australopithecus in China and called his find Peking man. Other examples of australopithecus are Java and Heidelberg man.
