The following Statista-created charts are pretty interesting for their relevance to environmental influence, public health implications, and economic impact:

Graphic Map: Nearly a Billion People Still Defecate Outdoors [as of 2015]

Graphic Map: One in Three People Lack Access to Proper Sanitation

It's a shame that a certain person in a position of power doesn't generally bother to do a little research to back up his assertions or learn to express his opinions in terms that don't completely undermine productive communication. Calling underprivileged countries ***holes is hardly the way to win friends and influence people.

The use of vulgar epithets in communication is extremely counterproductive in situations when one needs to be persuasive.

Frankly, one might expect that our government would welcome immigrants seeking access to better lifestyles, medical resources, education, and sanitation. Such immigrants generally have an appreciation for the American way of life, are highly motivated to learn English, and are prepared to work hard to assimilate and succeed.

IMHO, of course.
