Our ancestors were builders and pioneers and mostly fearless. We are regulators, auditors, bureaucrats, adjudicators, censors, critics, plaintiffs, defendants, social media junkies and thin-skinned scolds. A distant generation created; we mostly delay, idle and gripe.

An unintended consequence of affluence but not entirely true. Hansen is missing the transparent communications networks we have created. Without these networks the griping would be local and invisible to the rest of the world. Surely serfs and slaves griped but had no bullhorn.

That said, I have seen during my lifetime America degenerate from self reliance to give-me aided and abetted by shameless vote buying. That's how civilizations wither and die.
