Just returned from China, so here's the skinny as I see it:

1) New politbureau definitely forward looking in expanding China role in global economy. Examples: Lower age for beginning to teach English and aggressive westernized infrastructure investment.

2) Chinese people having hope for better life, and stimulating more internal consumption. This encouraged by party line backed by strong effort to provide more opportunity to grow middle-class.

3) Astronomical bet on "build it and they will come". Enormous debt funding of construction and other infrastructure, but also in marketing of China and Chinese products. This could cut both ways.

4) Arable land base shrinking, as fastest growth in established urban areas. Particularly important driver for success of companies like Yongye and CGA.

Reminded me a bit of post civil war U.S., and the Horatio Alger mind-set: achieve middle-class through hard work, determination, and some luck.

Takeaway - much opportunity.
