Ovie doesn't seem to need the 'help' and the team is a top contender. Meanwhile Ovie is leading in [goals], and among the leaders in assists. And ... the old tag of 'doesn't play defense' or even skate back into his own end .... NOPE. Ovie is tied for #3 in +/- (a rarity for a forward).

Yeah I have some crow to eat about this guy, at least in terms of how it's going so far. Dangle covered the 750th in last week's Hat Picks with a great line of thinking, which I'll paraphrase here.

'You know how when you watch old videos of Wayne Gretzky you might wonder, "did goalies even know HOW to play back when Wayne Gretzky played?" Yes, they did, but they looked bad because it was Wayne Gretzky. I [meaning Steve Dangle] think 30 years from now, people are going to look back at Ovechkin the same way. Obviously right now we know there are a lot of very good goalies in the NHL. But when we [or in my case, my kids] look back 30 years from now and watch Ovechkin score on all the goalies of today, we're going to think the same thing we did with Gretzky--it just looks like they have no idea what they're doing. But it's because it was Ovechkin.'

-n8 (Hat is off to the guy... he's clearly working harder and staying healthier than I predicted.)(Ovechkin, I mean, not Steve Dangle.)
