Let's hope cruise lines rethink their emergency planning and provide for improvements in such situations.

Amen. I agree.

To suggest that a cruise ship cannot make provision for emergency power, at least for critical systems (some lights, toilets, minimal food preservation and service, etc.) seems ridiculous.

Again, given the apparent inability or lack of interest on the part of cruise management to do such things only reinforces our negative feelings about cruise ships.

And I won't even mention a huge ship that is steered onto a reef so it causes deaths and injuries (vis a vis the Italian mess)!

Cruises? You can have 'em.
