Hi All,

A little background first. I am a 30 year old police officer working at a university and contributing into an annuity through TIAA-CREF. I have 16 years to go (will be 46 yrs old) before I am able to retire with about a $33000 yearly pension (today's dollars). I do plan on work after I retire. I do own a home, but I haven't started a family yet.

Do I continue to contribute into the 403b tax deferred annuity or should I just start investing in index funds outside the tax shelter?

I also have the ability to contribute into a 457 deferred compensation program inwhich I won't have to wait until 59 1/2 to take withdrawals. Should I do this instead of the 403b or index funds.

Thank you for your time and Happy New Year. Rob
