Hi, everyone:

Just some thoughts that popped into my head this morning on the drive into work.

I own my own business on the side, and have been trying to figure out ways to grow it some more, and POP! The lady reading the news gives me a great idea.

I thought I would share (no, not the business aspect of things!) what I heard.

I live in a state that is into cutting ALOT of budgets. Today, they announced that the State's School for the Blind is facing a $1.5 million budget cut.

Last year, they built them some new dorms, and athletic facilities because the old dorms and facilities were in total disrepair. Now, they want to cut the textbook/technology budget. ACCCCK!

After reading the article in the newspaper that describes this in more detail, I'm P*&^ed. The students who go to that school are using worn out Braille text books. That's bad, but not as bad as the next thing.......the text books they are using are 25 years old! Plus, the state just cut the budget for their one science teacher. They are currently fighting the state to get that funding back.

They only have 2 Braille Lites, which allow them to translate their notes into braille, then voice. Those are pretty gosh darn expensive. The size of an algebra text book turned into Braille is equal to (and possibly greater than) the size of the entire Encyclopedia Briticanna.

I'm not blind, obviously, and I don't know alot people who are blind, but I have worked in training sessions with those who are visually challanged, and they are so sweet and kind. I do NOT want to see these kids learning in these types of environments.

Does ANYONE have any suggestions on where to find these types of books and equipment at a discount rate? I am dedicating myself to using part of my profits from my business to help the school and especially these kids get the education they deserve.

*sigh* I hate government......
