Point 1. The tea party is right wing.  As such, it has little social conscience.  They're all for corporation taking control.  That's no improvement, in my book.  Authoritarianism is wrong whether it's by big government or by big corporations.    They also listen to people who are authoritarians themselves.  Do you know how authoritarian you have to be to force your religious opinions on women?  Even the Soviets never went that far.  Platitudes about how one big brother is bad while claiming another big brother is good does not impress me.  The Communists were bad because they were totalitarian; not because they were socialists.  Exactly the same reason I find the tea party is bad.  Bad for me, bad for you, and bad for the country.

If there are any principles upon this nation was founded, they're not  Christian principle, they were liberty.  Liberty above all else, even security.  A lesson we forgot after 9-11-01.  I honestly believe it's better that a few thousand of us die innocently and tragically, than to enslave the other 300 million.  What's more tragic is for both to happen, as it has.

Point 2. Tort reformer most often talk about limiting awards in general.  I also don't like frivolous lawsuits and know there are far too many people pursuing them.  I agree to try reforming them.  I also like the idea of limiting lawyers fees.  Cut out the 50% of the award - or at least cap it to anything less than six figures.  But even that must change over time with inflation and whatnot.  But once again, tort reform is still small compared to a few other problems the medical industry faces.  I do agree, however, that to slay a small dragon is better than no dragon at all.
