The North Carolina DMV web site allows one to check for availability. Both of my ideas are available. I haven't had a chance to check the other nominations yet.

neener, neener, neeeeeeener!
(actually, I beat you by two posts - although you did inspire me to tighten up my entry...)

I still miss my old Hog's plates.. "ALIVE"

Charles, you are getting into the spirit of this.

I kinda like VANDC8TD!

I've also been trying to come up with a shortcut to emeritis.

I lie the recognition that it gives that X doesn't.

Once heard a retired college professer say about emeritis:

"The 'e' means your out. The 'meritis' means you earned it."

VANEMRTS isn't quite clear enough to me.

VAN ALUM comes about the closest and is leading in the voting.

GeeB, thanks for all the contributions, all!

That saga will be ending on Thanksgivig weekend. I'll have a full report at that time. It's quite an adventure.

GeeB, thanks for asking.

True, one couldn't explain in 8 characters where a state prison chaplain and a public school teacher got the money to buy that!

But the DMV doesn't offer a lower case 'f'.
