<<Nat gas, wind and solar power>>

What jaagu doesn't acknowledge is that to do renewables, you have to build BOTH the windmills AND the gas turbines if you want a reliable power supply.

And my environmentalist friends are always wringing their hands about running out of fossil fuels, but you see they doesn't hesitate on recommending natural gas, a fossil fuel, when it suits their interest to do so.

Jaagu also doesn't acknowledge that he wants to shut down coal and nuclear power station that have decades of useful life in them, and decades of construction costs that still need to be paid for.

So the real question jaagu is asking is:

Are you willing to pay for nuclear power, coal power, natural gas power AND renewable power in order to be able to use jaagu's windmills?

We wont even mention that environmentalists are also busily getting hydroelectric dams dug up and preventing new ones from being built. If you mentioned hydropower, you'd have to add that on top of the other power systems jaagu and/or his environmentalist friends are working like beavers to shut down.

What SP doesn't acknowledge is that we have plenty of existing power generation (nuclear, coal, gas, hydro, geothermal and biomass) to build wind turbines without the need for need for gas turbines. Maybe in 2030 or 2040 we will need to start to make sure we have enough backup power. But for the next 10-20 years there is no problem.

The problem is in the heads of those folks who want to continue believe that we need unsafe, dirty and expensive coal and nuclear.
