We've relocated, downsized AND moved closer to family.
Hubby retired last year and we moved from Brooklyn, NY to a small town near the ocean in New England. Love living here. It's like living in paradise. I can smell the ocean that is 1900 feet from our small house.
Living in Brooklyn, close to Wall St., was very expensive.
We sold our apartment and bought a house that was half the price of the coop that we sold. Utilities are much much lower here as we have gas heat and hot water and not oil. The house is very easy to maintain.
We are part of an 18 unit townhouse association. The people are lovely.
Most of them are our age or a bit older even though this is not a retirement community.
Best of all, one of our children and two grandkids live just a few minutes away.

Good for you, Brooklyn. It sounds as if you are well into retiring well on less.

The reduction in our mortgage payments was huge. The price of groceries in the large supermarket one town over is sometimes 50% cheaper than the local supermarket in Brooklyn and the food is so much better here.
Our grown children supply us with theatre tickets in Boston and gift cards to restaurants therefore we are able to see plays at least 4-6 times a year if not more.
Even if we wanted to, we would never have been able to afford to live in our coop apartment in Brooklyn Heights. Not only that, we have family here which makes all the difference in the world.
