You wrote, Is the $55,000 ($61,000 for 50+) total deferred compensation limit for 2018 for 401k alone or does this include any IRA contributions? If you know the answer can you provide a source for the information? I want to contribute the maximum to my non-deductible IRA for 2018, but may go over the limit if $61,000 includes the IRA limit of $6500 (I am 53).

The limits for employer-sponsored pension plans have always been separate from IRA limits. The IRS posts the limits on their website.

There have also been proposed increases for 2019 that some finance websites have posted, but I've not yet seen the official IRS announcement. For instance:
