A New Year dawns, and the CAPS5StarIndex turns over...
This month's rebalance took place as of the end-of-day calculation run on 12/29/06. At that time, the CAPS5StarIndex's performance was:
Rating: 89.45
Rank: 1978 out of 18736
Score: 302.21
Accuracy: 52.00%
Of the 200 stocks in the Index, 73 of them were no longer on the list for the new month. Of these, 60 had fallen to 4-Star status, 8 to 3-Stars, and none to 2- or 1-Star status. The other 5 were ineligible because they had too few picks (less than the new sliding scale value of 58). These were ended on the first trading day of the New Year, 1/3/07. When ended, 41 of the dropped picks were net losers, while 32 were winners, with a positive score. However, 11 of these winners returned less than +5 points, so they won't count toward the index's accuracy. Not that we care, since the interesting statistic is whether the index beats the market, not whether it beats other players.
Later that same day, 73 new stocks came onto the list to take their place. Stay tuned to see how these new additions will fare....
Also, be sure to check out the rebalance information for the twin index, CAPS1StarIndex. At the end of 2006, both CAPS5Star and CAPS1Star were beating the market (with positive score points).
