Did you ever wanted to post a large table in these message boards and found that it is a nightmare to align the data nicely in columns and wonder how some posters are able to post big tables?? If so read on..

Issue
#1 The space provided to edit the table in the message board is too small.
#2 If you just copy paste a spreadsheet table as-is the formatting is off because of uneven spaces & tabs present in the spreadsheet data.
#3 Manually editing the tables in the message area just seem not feasible.

Solution
#1 To get table formatting, put your table data between < pre > < /pre > (without spaces in brackets).
#2 Get the data aligned before you paste it.
#3 Use spread sheet functions to align the data for you.

Most of us know to use Solution #1, which works great for small tables. I will explain how to use Solution #2 & #3. Manually aligning tables is a waste of time and cumbersome. With couple of google spreadsheets and formulas we can directly copy and paste and get it right every time and thanks for Google spreadsheets. The same formulas can also be used in Excel.

Here is a Table_Template google spreadsheet that I created which can help with this task.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lWBpDNpZFh0O7QvfVePt...

There are 3 tabs. IN, OUT & Length. IN is where you would copy your data to be formatted. OUT is where the same data presented in ready to copy format. Length is scratch needed by OUT for the formatting.

Feel free to copy the Table_Template and modify according to your need. By default it supports for tables upto columns A-Z and Rows 1-100. If you need more than this you can extend the formulas accordingly in Length & OUT tabs.

Steps need to be performed.
#1. Delete all the existing data in IN tab.
#2. Copy your new data and Paste special -> "paste values only" in to IN tab
#3. Go to Out tab and copy just the required rows & columns (don't do ctrl-A) and paste it message between < pre > < /pre > . That's it!

#4. As an optional step, you can paste the data in a notepad and replace the "Tab" with "Space" to even further reduce the space between columns and then paste it here. If some one in interested in this then look for "Best Answer" in this link in order to do that. https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080924102539A...

For spreadsheet formulas I got the idea from this link http://superuser.com/questions/521678/how-to-paste-excel-dat...

I have shown you as en example how the data will look when pasted in the message board here from the current Table_Template data. You can also try by copying in a message and previewing it.
