Pretty dumb to sell sell the thing at an LA pawn shop, as if they weren't all on high alert for the instruments.

I recovered a WW11 vintage herringbone d28 for a founding member of the Cache Valley Drifters (who happened to help me pick out my first brand new D28... long ago) .

The 'bone' was stolen from his vehicle as they were breaking down their stage.

A few days later, a surfer who knew I played told me he knew a great deal on a Martin. Light bulb!! I called the rightful owner, set up a buy for $250 to take place in the beach parking lot.

I showed up, checked out the guitar - no harm, no foul - then offered not to call the cops in lieu of the $250.

It's a great feeling when nice instruments come home.
